Dennis Queen, DAN and DPAC activist extraordinaire, introduces a poem she’s written for the blog. Thanks Dennis, love it!
Shoddy, in the modern sense of lesser quality, means so many things, in respect of disabled people.
Thinking about that inspired this poem.
On Shoddy Thinking…
Disabled people may be seen as defective,
Less than a whole person,
A shoddy version of the onlooker.
We may have quite different aspirations!
We are so much more than this.
Though some of us feel that way at times..
In more than one way.
The incomplete service we get in so many places,
The defective, broken hopes we’ve learned,
The second-rate chances, on top of our differences,
Lead to late, not great, expectations.
Let others fret over lesser qualities.
Let us keep our minds on freedom and e-quality.
