It’s wonderful to see two of the artworks that were created for the Shoddy exhibition featuring in a major arts festival in Leeds. Beyond celebrates the fantastic work of artists, performers and musicians with learning disabilities in Leeds, and the organisations that support them.
There’s a huge range of creative arts and activities in the festival: performance, dance, music, photography, sculpture and visual arts. At Left Bank from 14th-23rd June you’ll be able to see two of the popular pieces from the original Shoddy exhibition in Leeds:
- Andrew Towse and Anne-Marie Atkinson’s Dark Light series of scanned photographs and
- the back-pack installation by the Wednesday Textile Group at Specialist Autism Services, with its strong message, “don’t label us” (pictured).
Andrew and Anne-Marie are also showing another collection of work at West Yorkshire Playhouse. Look out for Red, Blue and Yellow in the Newlyn Gallery.
There’s loads going on over the next few weeks, take a look at the events listing for Beyond. I’m sure to bump into you at something!
